All New Nuke Assist & NukeX Upgrade Promo

The Foundry today announced that NUKEX 7.0v6 – complete with the brand new Assist tool for NUKEX – is now in beta.

What is Assist for NUKEX?
NUKEX’s Assist tool allows the common tasks of paint, roto, 2D tracking and planar tracking to be shared with a wider group of artists at no additional cost.

Available as two additional licences for every (full) NUKEX licence with valid maintenance, NUKEX’s Assist feature gives artists access to a select set of NUKE nodes to perform the common tasks of paint, roto, 2D tracking and planar tracking and comes completely free to NUKEX customers on valid maintenance.

To break this down, you basically get two limited feature NUKE licenses that allow for only the Paint, Roto, 2D Tracking and Planar Tracking nodes so artists that will only be using these tasks can have access to them for free.

How to do I get my hands on Assist for NUKEX?
If you’re a NUKEX owner with valid maintenance you will have received a email from The Foundry with instructions on how to get hold of your Assist licences and the NUKEX 7.0v6 beta.

If you’re a NUKEX customer but are worried your maintenance may have lapsed, please Contact Us to renew and get your hands on the beta and Assist licences.

If you’re a NUKE customer, take advantage of our NUKEX Upgrade Promotion! Check out the details below…

The Foundry MARI 2.0 is out now

The Foundry have released MARI 2.0

New features include:

  • Procedural Layers - A powerful procedural engine is built into the heart of the layer stack; offering fluid, GPU accelerated real time procedural noises, patterns, projections and more. Procedural layers mean artists can easily create the look they want, seamlessly blending procedural and painted detail with the same toolkit.
  • Mask groups - In MARI 2.0, rather than a single mask per layer, each layer’s mask is a full layer stack in its own right. Artists can use blending, groups, adjustments and procedurals in their masks for a much more flexible, and non-destructive, workflow.
  • Shared layers - We don’t think artists should have to waste time keeping track of how and where they have reused layers and masks. MARI 2.0 introduces a unique layer concept, shared layers, to ensure that artists can spend more time painting. A shared layer is one that appears multiple times in the same stack, or is shared between stacks, and is automatically and instantly updated wherever it is used.
  • Streamlined layer view – With powerful grouping, tagging and filtering options, the layer view in MARI 2.0 means even highly complex stacks are easy to navigate and control.

The Foundry & Luxology Join Forces

The Foundry and Luxology announced that the two companies will be merging as of today.  This will bring together two of the brightest new software companies in the VFX world and no doubt some amazing new developments will be sure to follow.

From The Foundry’s Website:

We’re very excited to announce that The Foundry and Luxology have merged!

The new group adds Luxology’s innovative 3D modelling and rendering technology and its flagship product, modo, to The Foundry’s existing stable of products.

modo is a cutting-edge and artist friendly 3D software package that combines modelling, painting, rendering and animation in a single integrated powerful package. The new generation in 3D software, modo is a true end-to-end solution that offers a fresh, flexible and modular approach.

The collective product range is very exciting, but equally important is the shared ethos of our two companies and the staff within them. Both The Foundry and Luxology have strong reputations for being community driven and good collaborators. We are widely recognised for building tools around customer needs, providing artist-friendly workflows and great support. For this reason we’re very excited about what the future holds and a union that will allow us to push the boundaries for our customers across a wide range of industries.

John Knoll, Visual Effects Supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic comments:
“I am a big fan of both Luxology and The Foundry having been using modo for quite a while and KATANA here at ILM in the last 18 months. Their marriage is really exciting for the VFX community. Their combined technology and similar approach to working with customers is a very interesting development. I’ll definitely be keeping my eyes on them.”

Bill Collis, CEO of The Foundry comments:
“We were impressed by modo’s strong roots in a variety of markets – including VFX, design and games – and by Luxology’s focus on creating artist friendly, highly advanced technologies. Both companies are a great match for each other.

The Foundry and Luxology’s products are highly complementary, and we both like our products to be open and flexible, letting the customers choose how they want to work. In the short term we will be continuing to develop the interaction between our products, which will be of immediate benefit to all of our customers. We can’t wait to see what our combined experience and knowledge will allow us to build in the long term.”

Brad Peebler, President of Luxology comments:
“The Foundry has an impressive pedigree in the visual effects industry, where its products and attention to customers are second to none. Creative industries are converging in terms of media, quality and deliverables. Joining forces with The Foundry will allow us to accelerate the development of modo, ushering in a new era for our customers. We simply can not wait to leverage our combined strength to change the landscape for content creators everywhere.”
