Gefen Wireless extenders work great, once you have the correct firmware! The GTV-WHD-1080P-SR is an in-room wireless extender for HDMI. ”through-the-walls’ solutions are also available for the same price.
We recently sold some to a contractor who was using them for a high end presentation room. Clients can hook up their Apple Macbook Pro or Mac Air and display their desktop via wireless to a 65″ plasma display. Plug the Sender unit directly into the HDMI output of the source, a Macbook Air in our case, and set your extended desktop to the correct video resoltuion such as 1920×1080 60P. Connect the receiver to your large monitor or projector and you’re done…or in this case – NOT!
A technical problem with the firmware on some of the wireless devices such as the GTV-WHD-1080 series can cause the video to flash on an off every few seconds. The link LED will remain solid, but the video LED will flash. If you have this problem, contact Gefen for a firmware update. Gefen may prefer to have you send the unit in, but in our case they were able to help our client via remote. At the time of this post, there was no download available on their website. Gefen’s technical support staff worked with Motion Media and was helpful in talking our client through the firmware update process, resulting in a happy client and happy reseller!
