Substance Painter 1.7 Released!

SUBSTANCE PAINTER 1.7: ENHANCED WORKFLOW AND CONTENT

Allegorithmic has released Substance Painter 1.7, to close what has been a very fruitful year for the tool. Indeed Substance Painter has come quite a long way, and needless to say they plan on keeping the same pace in 2016! This update contains new features which are mostly about improving the artist’s workflow and adding quality content, mainly:

  • The ability to assign a different shader per texture set.
  • Being able to create your own project templates.
  • Painting enhancements: improved precision thanks to an update of the brush engine (better handling of sub-pixel painting, filtering for stamping and antialiasing when painting sharp strokes and patterns).
  • New content: car paint shader, Dota shader, velvet shader, baked lighting filter (allows to bake lighting information in your base color/diffuse) and new mask generators (light position and 3D distance).

Of course, this update also comes with many other improvements and fixes, find out more in the full release note.

Substance Designer 5.2

This Substance Designer 5.2 update targets mostly the 3D view, graph, export and performance; most importantly:

  • 3D view features : tesselation and opacity support in PBR shaders.
  • Convert maps to Vray/Corona/Redshift/Arnold targets using the PBR converter filter.
  • Pixel Processor node performance boost on DX10 engine: about 50 times faster 🙂
  • Graph improvements: options to render comments at constant size, and to disable new node display in the 2D view.
  • Option to hide/display PSD layers in the library preferences.
This release also contains many bug fixes. You can find the full release note here.

1)Oculus Rift

oculus

Who wouldn’t choose the Oculus booth for their top GDC pick? Oculus is simply the coolest kid on the playground. We aren’t trying to start an uprising here. Like the other plebeians of the GDC, we waited in line to try the Oculus demo for about two hours. Our joints were aching and we skipped lunch, but we waited until we were called upon.

Here’s what GDC participants discovered: Continue reading “Motion Media’s Top 8 GDC Picks”…
