Maxon & Adobe Announce Cineware & Cinema 4D Lite

First Step in Recently Announced Strategic Alliance Results in Streamlined Workflow and Improved Functionality for Motion Graphics and Visual Effects Artists.

MAXON, leading developer of professional 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering solutions, today revealed the first step in its strategic alliance with Adobe Systems Incorporated, aimed at delivering a new level of integration between its powerful 3D application CINEMA 4D, and Adobe® After Effects®. The recently revealed next release of Adobe’s industry-leading software will include two MAXON technologies directly within the new Adobe After Effects: CINEWARE and CINEMA 4D Lite.

CINEWARE: The new live 3D pipeline between CINEMA 4D and After Effects, which eliminates intermediate rendering between applications, is made possible by CINEWARE, which establishes a bridge between the two applications. One of the biggest benefits to artists will be seen in a streamlined workflow, enabling them not only to import native CINEMA 4D scenes directly as assets into After Effects but also to utilize CINEMA 4D’s multi-pass workflow as layers. Users will benefit from decreased rendering time because CINEWARE makes CINEMA 4D’s Advanced Rendering Engine available directly inside After Effects. With access to this functionality, rather than having to render every revision, users will now be able to work on CINEMA 4D projects within After Effects and see the changes in real-time.

“This pipeline cannot be found anywhere else to this extent, and it will completely change the workflow of artists in the future,”
says Harald Egel, MAXON’s co-founder and CEO.

Popular switches to Adobe Premiere Pro for Latest Video for Burton Snowboards

Imagine some of the world’s most progressive snowboarders risking their lives to shoot in beautiful remote locations—all cut to great music. This year, Burton Snowboards chased winter to produce an original film to kick off the season, inspiring both core riders and newcomers to the sport. The creative production company behind this year’s project is Popular, a studio recognized for originating authentic athlete, personality, and lifestyle- driven creative for film, commercials, and branded entertainment. The award-winning partners of Popular—David Tindale and Jeremy Pettit—sat down with Adobe to share their experience switching from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 software to put together 13, Burton’s action-packed film for 2013.

Some Highlights:

Adobe: You previously used Final Cut Pro. We understand this was really one of the first times you had ever used Adobe Premiere Pro. Why did you switch?

Tindale: This was our first film stepping into full 1080 resolution. We knew we would be working with different camera formats and needed an editing solution that could handle everything. Footage was shot on RED Scarlet and Epic cameras, mainly—but some Cineflex, Panasonic HPX, GPS, GoPro, and a variety of DSLR cameras. It was incredible to just throw it all onto the Adobe Premiere Pro timeline and get straight to work. I think the main thing was the ability to deal with all these different formats. With so much footage and a tight timeline it was amazing to jump right into the edit and skip the time-consuming process of transcoding all of our footage.

Adobe: What was the switch to Adobe Premiere Pro like?

Pettit: The switch was pretty straightforward. We started working with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 on an ESPN project last spring. I needed to work fast, so I just mapped the keyboard shortcuts from Final Cut Pro to Adobe Premiere Pro. But with the Burton project we moved to CS6 and I started using the regular Adobe Premiere Pro keyboard shortcuts—it wasn’t difficult. The improvements in the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 interface made it more user friendly than the previous version. I love the “log and transfer” capabilities, such as the ability to see big thumbnails and scrub through them, set your project in and out points, and drop everything into your timeline. We were still learning as we went, but we found that right away, Adobe Premiere Pro is great for getting down to business.

Your Adobe CS6 Upgrade Questions Answered

Adobe is changing a lot about their upgrade policy with the release of Adobe Creative Suite 6 and we’re getting questions about what can be upgraded and how to actually get the free upgrade to CS6.  So we thought we’d answer some of those questions for you…

Question: Can I upgrade to CS6?

Owners of a CS5 or CS5.5 suite edition qualify for upgrade pricing to a CS6 suite edition. Owners of an individual CS5 or CS5.5 product qualify for upgrade pricing to the same product but not to a suite edition. Any version earlier than CS5 will not be eligible for upgrade pricing.

Owners of CS3 or CS4 individual products and suite editions will receive temporary upgrade pricing to CS6 until December 31, 2012. After that date, only owners of CS5 or CS5.5 products will qualify for upgrade pricing to CS6.

Owners of CS2 have one last chance if they purchase CS5 from a reseller in the next 30 days (to receive a free upgrade to CS6).

Question: I just bought CS5 (CS5.5) – Do I qualify for a free upgrade?

If you purchased through Adobe.com on or after March 26, 2012, you are qualified to receive an upgrade to the equivalent Creative Suite 6 version of your product at no additional cost when CS6 ships. A one-time coupon will be sent to the email address associated with your order approximately 10 days after CS6 becomes publicly available.

If you purchased an eligible Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 or a Creative Suite 5.5 component through an Adobe authorized reseller on or after March 26, 2012, you are qualified to receive an upgrade to an equivalent Creative Suite 6 version of your product at no additional cost when CS6 ships. Details and instructions for submitting your claim.

How do I claim my free upgrade?

After Creative Suite 6 ships, visit www.adobe.com/go/pa. Follow the instructions and sign in with your Adobe ID. If you don’t have an account with Adobe, you’ll be prompted to create one. You’ll then complete an online form, requiring you to provide your Creative Suite 5.5 serial number and a scanned copy of your receipt.

When will I receive my free upgrade?

Once you submit all your proofs of purchase, please allow Adobe 7 days to process your request.

Do I have to pay for shipping?

In North America, your free upgrade to CS6 will be available via electronic download from adobe.com per instructions you’ll receive by email.

Additional Info: Upgrade policy after product announcement

Please Note: This upgrade policy is in line with our 30-day return policy - which is in line or better than most retailers in terms of returns, refunds and price matching guarantees.
