Jan Major has been involved in the industry for over ten years. He worked as Lead Environment and Lighting Artist at Blur Studio for seven years. Jan recently left Blur and has since busied himself creating scenes with the MEGASCANs data.  For more general information about MEGASCANs from Quixel, click here. Jan built the following scenes with MEGASCANs (both of which were heavily featured in Quixel promotions):

Cool and Useless Stuff Made by 3D Printer

There are quite a few useful things that you can make with a 3D printer, and those things have gotten quite a bit of news coverage. These things include but are not limited to padlocks, lamps, clips, small, rare replacement pieces for mechanical objects, kitchen tools, iphone cases, guns, guitars, etc. We want to talk to you today about all the useless chotchkies you can make with a 3D printer that will bring pure joy to your life. The possibilities are endless. We say, try your hand at printing an alien skull, a tiger figurine, or a Princess Leia style bikini. We’ve even seen some incredible art come out of 3D printing. Here are our top 10 non-utilitarian uses for 3D printing. Continue reading “Cool and Useless Stuff Made by 3D Printer”…

Digital Art Contest for Seattle-based Creators!

Motion Media announces its first digital art contest launching March 18th, ending June 11th. We are looking for artists to feature in our new gallery space on Pioneer Square in Seattle. Our gallery space is a registered Art Walk stop. We want to feature the work of Seattle’s premiere digital artist on July 2nd (the first Thursday in July). Your work will hang in our space for the month of July – and to kick off the event, we will host a happy hour the evening of the Art Walk. If we choose to show you on July 2nd, we will print work selected for the show and frame those pieces as needed on our dime. That stuff is expensive and time consuming!

If you are interested in entering the contest, please send a selection of 5 pieces, plus your resume and a short bio blurb to ali@motionmedia.com. We accept 2D, 3D, video, and more. For extra consideration, follow us on twitter (motionmediallc) and facebook (Motion Meda, LLC) and tweet/post a status about why you deserve to win the contest. In your status, @ us, and include the hashtag #MMGallery. The contest ends June 11th! We will notify you of the winner on this date.

Thanks for participating!

*Please submit work at the following resolution: 9000×6000 @300dpi for 30×20 inches.
